Technical Notes: Percy Grainger (1882-1961) was an Australian-born composer who spent much of his life in England and the United States. An avid collector of folk songs, he created numerous "settings" of folk melodies for a wide variety of musical media. His six-movement folk song masterwork for wind band, Lincolnshire Posy, was first published in 1940. The title derives from Grainger's reference to the piece as a "bunch of musical wildflowers."
